History

After about a decade practicing with two large firms, Silver Lake Group, Ltd. was established as a “boutique” law firm.  The driving force behind this new (at the time) endeavor was the opportunity to build a general business practice without the constraints of being at a firm with attorneys who may not fully understand the unique business needs of the midwest and rural America.  Thus, Silver Lake Group, Ltd. was established as a business law firm to assist clients in meeting their business-related objectives.  The practice of our attorneys is limited to those areas of law where we actually have the knowledge and experience to bring a solution to problems or issues presented by our clients, such as finance, contracting, government, real estate, and commercial litigation.  This allows us to provide services in a manner that is more efficient, effective, and appropriate for each unique situation.

We have been blessed with good clients such that the scope of our representation is far reaching, ranging from general operational and organizational/board governance matters to complex financing matters, tax increment financing (TIF) and business district issues, zoning, annexation and development matters.  In addition, our representation includes, almost on a daily basis, dealing with banking, finance, real estate employment, and contract matters.  We have represented businesses in essentially all aspects of their business, from simple contract review matters to $50 million mergers and acquisitions.  In addition, over the years, we have also represented several state agencies, including the Department of Insurance, the Illinois Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan, the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety.

We also own our own title company, an action that has allowed us to provide more timely and complete service to our clients with real estate needs.  With our own in-house administrative team, we can provide title search, ownership report, closing, escrow, and exchange services in a more economical and timely manner.  This option has served the firm well as we have closed simple transactions for a vacant lot to a water line expansion for a client that spanned some 300 easements and properties.
